The Economic and Commercial Office of the Chinese Embassy in the Republic of Sierra Leone hereby informs that the MOFCOM Scholarship, sponsored by the Ministry of Commerce of the People's Republic of China, is now open for application from eligible Sierra Leoneans. The scholarship is a CHINA AID scheme geared towards helping developing countries strengthen their human resource capacity by providing the platform for further studies in wide range of areas.
I. Eligibility
To be eligible, applicant must:
-be a government official or an university staff member from Sierra Leone, under the age of 45, and preferably with over 3 years working experience;
-be a bachelor's degree holder when applying for master's program, or a master's degree holder when applying for doctoral program;
-be in good health (Medical check-up should be done at 34 Military Hospital and the form should be signed by the Chinese doctors);
Note: Applicants who don’t meet the above requirements may not be considered eligible for the scholarship.
II. Application Process
The MOFCOM Scholarship is only available for applicants who would like to further their studies at post graduate level (Master and PhD). Please read the instructions carefully before registering application.
There are two types of scholarship scheme: University Program and CSC (China Scholarship Council) Program, and applicant can choose only one between the two types.
For University Program, applicants can choose only one program and one university from a list of 37 programs from 32 universities. Attached herewith are the list of 37 programs (Attachment 1) and their detailed introduction and instructions (Attachment 2, it can also be downloaded at : https://www.china-aibo.cn/EN/). Please carefully follow the instructions issued by the university to complete your application.
For CSC Program, each applicant can choose the same (one) English-taught program in three universities out of the 26 designated Chinese universities as the desired options. Attached herewith is the list of 26 Chinese universities and English-taught Programs (Attachment 3) as well as the Enrollment Guide for this category (Attachment 4).
All applicants are required to read the application guide carefully, prepare the application materials in strict accordance with its requirements, finish the online application or fill in the university application form and complete all the application procedures.
III. Document Submission
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, applicants are requested NOT to submit the hard copies of the application documents. Instead, they are required to submit the soft copies of the following documents to mofcomscholarshipsl@gmail.com before April 12, 2021:
1. Application Form (For University Program, applicants should fill one university application form and one CSC online form; For CSC Program, applicants should only fill one CSC online form) (PDF);
2. Two recommendation letters (PDF): one from the ministry that the applicant works for; another one from a professor in the university that the applicant graduated from;
3. Highest diploma (PDF): it should be stamped by Ministry of Technical and Higher Education and then Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation as authentication;
4. Academic Transcripts (PDF): it should be stamped by Ministry of Technical and Higher Education and then Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation as authentication;
5. A Personal Statement including the study plan or research proposal with a minimum of 1000 words (PDF);
6. Foreigner Physical Examination Form (Attachment 5, checked at 34 Military Hospital) (PDF);
7. Passport photocopy (at least 18 months validity; Service or Diplomatic passport is not acceptable) (PDF);
8. CV (PDF);
9. Certificate of non-criminal record (Police Clearance) (PDF);
10. Applicant Information Sheet (Attachment 6 or 7, please fill one of them and submit the XLS version instead of PDF);
Notes:
1. Incomplete or late application will not be processed.
2. The office is only responsible for recommending qualified and outstanding applicants, and the final admission decision will be made by the admission committees of the universities.
3. As the COVID-19 pandemic is still spreading around the world, successful applicants may have to stay in Sierra Leone to take online courses after the academic year begins. However, it is also possible for the successful applicants to travel to China depending on the trend of the pandemic, and in that case the self-quarantine and other preventive measures should be strictly observed for the international travel.
